2010 was doomed to be an unusual year for technology field, global electronic industry as well as end users. Many Apple fans finally got their long-awaited iPad. And Following to the heat of iPad, there was a new wave to the tablet PC market especially for Android Tablets.
Today, android system has been ruling the electronic world. The success of android Smartphone just proved this by its sought-after user experience which has affected the growth of iPhone. And how about tablet PC? Does it take any challenge to compete with iPad? Here we would like to do a comparison for these 2 electronic giant.
1. Features
With the 9.7 inch size, 680g weight, iPad is definitely an art of work. The multi touch functionality with capacitive screen makes it more appealing than others. While for android tablet, it varies. Most OEM android tablets come in 7 inch or smaller models. There are few 10 inch models like Motorola Xoom in the retail stores. However there are floods of ipads in multiple sizes 7, 8 and 10.1 inch tablets. Some can provide multi-touch screen, but many others with resistant screen cannot. Some individuals that love reading ebooks will go for the 7 inch apads, the gamer or the movie watcher will go for the 10.1 apad units. For designs, iPad2 offers 2 color for consumer's option which is black and white. As to various android tablet PCs, they are general black while few makers offer creative color such as red or white.
2. Operating System
Android 2.2 is a great competitor to Apple iPad IOS4. iPad does not support USB connection. However, most android tablets are generous when it comes to external ports. Take the FlyTouch 3 aPad models for example, they come with 2 USB ports and 2 micro SD cards, an Ethernet port and an HDMI out port. In addition, iPad2 improved its application by built-in web camera which is basically seen on android PCs.
3. Prices
iPad eats quite a big share of the market. But today, Google Android PCs appear to be popular. Prices may not be the most important factor but essentially decide the market hold. Obviously, iPad is and high end device for both its function and price. The lowest and latest price for a 16GB iPad2 is USD499 which might not be budget-friendly to some people. On the other hand, android tablets seem to be much more affordable. The cheapest one can be found on ShopSimple with only around USD80.
In short, the fierce competition brings consumer benefits for which let us have wider choices and diverse application experience.

MOTOROLA XOOM MZ604 vs BLACKBERRY PLAYBOOK vs ASUS EEE PAD TRANSFORMER TF101 vs Ipad 2 wifi?
I just want to know which one is the best between these 3 pads for apps, games utilities etc and I’d like to show it off in front of my friends I don’t care about size and weight and price. I care about storage space and the stuff mentioned above and if there is newer versions of these pads u can put it in the comparison
Hi.Being that the Xoom is android based,I suggest sticking to that device instead. It’s far better.
what is better ipad 2 or motorola xoom ?
I’ve been online researching for the last 2.5 hours and still not sure , the xoom looks better in almost all departments but the big one nearly all comparisons draw up is the app market and android isn’t up to scratch by the looks of things but I think the ipad 2 looks really over priced for what you get compared with other tablets , so any thoughts ?
I’ve also read there may be a xoom 2 coming soon , does anyone know much on this ?
I like the Xoom. You can’t enjoy flash with iPad 2
Can someone pleasee write a summary on this article!!!?
CUPERTINO, Calif. — Over the last few years, Apple used technologies from its Macintosh computers to create the iPhone and the iPad, building a multibillion-dollar mobile computing business that now accounts for 60 percent of its revenue.
Now Apple is doing the reverse, taking technologies like the multitouch user interface from the iPhone and the iPad and using them to refresh its Mac business.
On Wednesday, Steven P. Jobs, the chief executive, unveiled two versions of its ultra-thin MacBook Air laptops. He also demonstrated an early version of Apple’s new OS X operating system, which will be available next summer. In addition to multitouch, the new hardware and software incorporate the video phone software FaceTime, an App Store and other popular features of Apple’s hand-held products.
Mr. Jobs even joked that the new MacBook Air was the offspring from the union of a Mac computer and an iPad. “We asked ourselves what would happen if a MacBook and an iPad hooked up,” he said.
The new MacBook Air models are more powerful than their predecessors, which were introduced in January 2008 and have not sold well. They are also priced more aggressively, starting at $999, rather than the $1,499 starting price of the original.
Analysts predicted the new machines would be successful. “They are going to sell well,” said Shaw Wu, an analyst with Kaufman Brothers. But Mr. Wu said that like the iPad, the new MacBook models are likely to have lower profit margins than Apple’s average, perhaps causing concern among investors.
Still, he said that with the new machines, Apple’s personal computer business would most likely grow at a faster rate than the overall industry, allowing Apple to continue to gain market share.
Indeed, while the focus over the last few years has been on the iPhone and iPad, Apple’s Mac business has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence.
Apple shined a spotlight on that during the Wednesday event, which was called “Back to the Mac.” Timothy Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer, said that the Mac business accounted for 33 percent of Apple’s revenue in the last year. And he said that the 27 percent growth in sales of Macs in the most recent quarter was about two and half times larger than the rate of growth of the personal computer business. As a result, the Mac, which a decade ago was just a tiny sliver of the PC business, now accounts for one in five computers sold to consumers in the United States.
Analysts said that the new computers were so light and priced so aggressively that they could compete with the iPad for the same customers.
In a conversation after the announcement, Mr. Cook said he was unconcerned by that risk. “If one cannibalizes the other, then so be it,” he said. He said it was better for Apple to cannibalize its own business than for another company to do so.
Along with the new operating system, Apple unveiled a new App Store that would sell software for the Mac. Mr. Jobs said that it would help customers to find applications and developers to sell them. Mac users would still be able to buy programs from other sources. The new App Store will be available in 90 days, Mr. Jobs said.
The new MacBooks come in two sizes of screens, 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch. They weigh 2.3 pounds, and 2.9 pounds, respectively. For comparison, the iPad weighs 1.5 pounds. The laptops’ thickness tapers from 0.68 of an inch at one end to 0.11 of an inch at the other. They have no optical or magnetic storage. Instead, like the iPad, they are built on Flash storage, which allows them to turn on instantly when powered up.
Mr. Jobs said that Apple considered putting touch-screen capabilities on its new computers, but found that for a vertical touch screen it is “ergonomically terrible.” Instead, Apple put multitouch capabilities on the computer’s track pad.

Should I get a Nook Color or an iPad 2?
I already have an iPod touch, and I’m interested in getting a tablet of some kind. It’s not that I need a laptop replacement or anything. I’ve read up on all of the iPad 2′s features, and I would mainly use it for:
- going on the internet, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. and reading mail
- reading eBooks
- drawing (I would get the Sketchbook Pro app and a stylus)
- showing pictures and videos on the go
- occasionally music listening
- Skype or video calling.
While I love all that the iPad can do, the price is a little far out for me. I would get the $499 model.
However, I just went into Barnes and Noble today, and I love the Nook’s size and shape – I think it’s really cute, plus the price is a lot friendlier.
Which one do you think I should get? Please give reasons, comparisons, etc. Also, would iPad 2 go on sale for Labor Day Weekend?
Hi, octoberbabycadi, I’d recommend something for half the price of iPad but that’ll give you all that you need from a tablet – portability, apps, music, video, and a great screen. It’s Nook Color from Barnes & Noble that is the best value of the current tablet market at $250. Even though Nook Color has LCD touchscreen, it’s a new generation screen which is anti-glare coated and is better performing in sunlight and produces less glare all of which are dooming reading on iPad. The screen is amazing and readable/viewable at wide angles. Nook Color is more than e-Reader as you can also watch video and use Android applications on it. It’s a hybrid device, much more than just an e-Reader but not a full tablet as it doesn’t have a camera. Nook Color has several apps that already come with the device (Pandora Internet radio, QuickOffice, etc.) and hundreds of other apps are available for download. Also, you can use the Social Settings screen to link your NOOK Color to your Facebook account and your Twitter account. You can also import all your contacts from your Google Gmail account. Once you have linked to Facebook and Twitter and set up email contacts, you can lend and borrow books, recommend books, and share favorite quotes with your friends. When you walk in with the Nook to Barnes & Noble store, you’re allowed to read any available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi. Nooks have USB port and microSD card slot. You can buy Nook’s at Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Millon, Walmart, BestBuy, Staples, OfficeMax, Fred Mayer, etc. stores and web sites.

Motorola Xoom’s advantage is that it has HDMI out and micro USB ports. It also has a 5MP rear camera compared iPad’s lousy 0.7MP.
BlackBerry PlayBook is the only tablet with 1080p video camera (front and back, even).
The ASUS Eee Transformer (TF101) is extremely feature rich for under $400: Android 3.1, 10.1 inch 1280×800 IPS (like iPad, but bigger and higher resolution) display, up to 9 hours of battery life (16 hours if optional dock added), optional ability to dock with keyboard, 1 GHz Tegra 250 ARM CPU with 1 GB RAM, good array of ports (mini HDMI, SD, micro SD), preloaded Polaris Office 3.0 for editing documents (.doc), spreadsheets (.xls) and presentation (.ppt) files. Note, though, no 3G (however people report success in tethering it to smart phones).
iPad 2 Advantages:
IPads have a higher degree of fit-and-finish than the competition. Like iPhones vs other smart phones, iPods vs other MP3 players, or Macs vs PC’s, iPads are widely regarded as being more refined and polished than the competition.
iPad 2 Disadvantages:
1. No Flash.
2. No SD expansion; no HDMI port; no USB port.
3. ASUS Eee Transformer has a better display (10.1 inch, 1280×800, IPS vs 9.7 inch, 1024×768, IPS) for less money.
4. PlayBook and G-Slate have better rear camera video recording (1080p vs 720p).
5. PlayBook has much better front camera video recording (1080p vs VGA).
6. Almost all tablets have better camera resolution than iPad’s lousy 0.7 MP.
