Apple is hosting an event on March 2 at which it is expected to unveil the iPad upgrade. Last year, the first iPad went on sale in April - and it was assumed the same schedule would apply to the iPad 2.
That was until Yuanta Securities said yesterday in a note to investors that the launch date had slipped to June because Apple had changed the design, causing a "production bottleneck".
Apple, as always, refused to comment on the record. The company's preferred method of communication is usually via anonymous tips to the Wall Street Journal. But needs must, and with Apple shares sliding three per cent yesterday afternoon thanks to Yuanta's announcement, emergency measures were apparently taken and Reuters contacted.
The news agency duly reported last night that the iPad 2 would go on sale in April, quoting "a person familiar with the matter" - a formulation that readers of the WSJ will recognise.
However, it may not be enough to save the launch of the iPad 2, which is threatening to turn into a damp squib because of persistent rumours that it is really just a placeholder to keep Apple fanboys occupied until the main event, the iPad 3, is released in September.
The rumours were given further credence today by a report claiming that Apple has reduced the number of iPad 2 units it is planning to manufacture.
Digitimes says that Apple's production volume forecast for January-March is expected to drop from the original 400,000-600,000 units to a mere 300,000-400,000 units - just what you would expect from a company that is secretly planning to render its new product obsolete within the space of six months
But, will these devices be a huge game-changer overall? I say yes. That's reason enough for me to keep working on my iPad, and noodling with thoughts about the future. I'm already seeing some possible ways this tech would serve consumers better (in store shopping assistant, anyone?) and also business types (especially when we can just Tom-Cruise-Minority-Report drag data from our iPhone onto our iPad and back with a hand gesture).

Should I buy from Online Apple Store, or should I go to a real store?
Ive been trying to buy an iPad 2, and I called like every Apple Store in my state.THEY ARE ALL OUT!!!!!!! So I was wondering if maybe I should just buy it online? But I kind of wanted like the experience of actually purchasing it and walking out, but I asked the people over the phone and they said they never know when they are getting new shipments in. ???
There is no difference in the price and the on-line store usually has more options. Also my experience has been that the Apple employees know very little about their products.
Ipad 2 Question to buy in store or online? will there be long lines?
I am for sure getting the iPad 2 but, i don’t know where to get it. I want to have it right away so i would prefer to get it in the Apple store. Will there be long lines do you think? What time will it be available online? Please help!
I have school until 1pm pst and me and my friend were going to get in line right after I get out so we would probably get to the apple store at 1:45. Would it even be worth it to go? Would there be to long lines that late in the day?
I Waited in line at AT&T for the iPhone 4 and I got there at 1:00pm and waited until 7am the next day so I don’t mind the long lines but would there be a chance of me getting one if I got in line that late?
can you pre-order one to pick up at the store? my concern is that they might be out when you get to the front. But if you can wait 18 hours for an apple product….go for it. Personally, i wouldnt wait more than 30 minutes for one but, every man to his own right? lol

Firstly you will not be able to pay for the iPad online as your credit card will have a UK address. You will have to get your friend to purchase it for you.
To try and avoid customs your friend can label the box ‘Repairs’
Buying the iPad 2 online on March 11?
ok so i plan i buying the ipad2 but dont want to waste a friday night in line at the store so im going to order it online. My questions are
1. I heard you can start ordering them online at 12:01 AM this Friday. True or False?
2. Will Bestbuy also be selling them online on the 11th?
3. If I buy one from the apple store will I be able to buy a one year warranty for it?
4. Will apple be selling a certain amount of ipads online or will they just sell an infinite amount?
5. How long would I have to wait for my ipad if I bought it on the 11th?

Well if you have to get it as soon as you can then i would recommend you to get a store early because apple is not letting you preorder it but you have to order it on the 11th and then you will have to wait fro shipping. Best Buy will be selling it on the 11th but you should get there because they’ll probably sell out soon. You seem very excited to get the iPad 2… Hope you like it
